Groundhog Day is celebrated in North America on the 2nd of February. On this day the groundhog comes out of its hole to see if its shadow is there. If the groundhog sees his shadow he will get scared and return to his hole to sleep and winter will continue for six more weeks, but if it doesn't see his shadow the groundhog doesn't return to its hole and the weather will get better. According to history Groundhog Day is based on a Christian festival called Candlemas Day from medieval Europe. At that time instead of the groundhog the weather was used to predict whether winter was over or not.
Punxsutawney Phil's prediction is that the groundhog will see its shadow and there will be more winter.
Wiarton Willie's prediction is opposite from Punsutawney's and is that there will be an early spring.
